Safety for Breakfast - Finding Help in the OHS Haystack

Around 50 managers from Wagga Businesses joined us at a business briefing at the Commercial Club on Thursday morning with the theme 'Saftey for Breakfast.' Presented by our corporate safety manager Kevin Bassett, the information was enthusiastically received.

"It's very heartening to see strong interest in safety issues, especially how to deal with bullying and harassment in the workplace" said Kevin.

"The problem faced by diligent managers in Wagga is working out how, exactly, to go about finding and implementing the right information in the mountains of guidelines and legislation. Even though they want to do the right thing it's made far from easy for them."

Competing pressures and what at times can be confusing and conflicting requirements combine to make compliance difficult for the Riverina's businesses. This is compounded more when state legislation and codes interface with Federal requirements.

"My objective is to shine a light on how local businesses can find the proverbial needle in the OHS information haystack. It's a great thing that there is no shortage of information but the problem is that it is far from conveniently located in one organisation or in one document."
